Learning From Resume Writing Examples

from:

The internet provides a wealth of information for free and there is any number of sites with resume writing examples posted for your review and consideration. These resume writing examples may be found on college websites, job search engines, on professional resume writing services websites, in articles and also on "how to" websites and pages.

When looking at the various resume writing examples and trying to determine which template or sample works best for you it is critical to keep several concepts in mind. These concepts can form the basis of deciding which resume writing examples are most suited to your type of profession, message you wish to get across to the employer, as well as your level of experience and education.

Most of the resume writing examples found online are very traditional in style and may not reflect more contemporary themes or styles. If you are applying for a very creative type of job, a more contemporary or creative resume may be just what you are looking for. If, however, you are applying to a business or highly professional type of job, a traditional business resume is probably more practical, applicable, and will be better received by the employer or screener.

The resume writing examples found on the internet, especially the free downloads and templates usually cannot be changed or formatted differently, unless you have a lot of computer experience. It may be easier to simply print out the various formats and combine them into a similar but unique resume that meets your requirements. While it may be tempting to just settle for the easiest to work with, it may not be the example that best highlights your skills and abilities.

The various resume writing examples may also help you decide what you don’t want your resume to look like. Lots of the examples on the internet have too many different types of fonts, use non-traditional types of headings, and rely on graphics, borders and extras to draw attention rather than on the actual content of the resume. If the resume writing examples are hard to read due to the font type or size, or if the page looks cluttered or overcrowded, take note of how that affects your interest in reading the page and avoid that mistake when generating your own resume.

Resume writing examples may also give you ideas for specific headings, phrases or ideas for presenting your information. Remember that the information must be specific and accurate, if it doesn’t make sense on your resume no matter how good it sounds; don’t add the phrase or statement.
