Are you in the process of hunting jobs? If so, sooner or later, you will get hired. Some people are not aware that applicants are subject to a pre employment screening background check before they get hired. On the other hand, some people may have heard about pre employment screening background check but do not know anything about it all. If you are among the people from these two categories, then you should be informed.
Being prepared for a pre employment screening background check will help you ensure that job position you are applying for. At the same time, you or your potential employer won’t be surprised by the results or report of the pre employment screening background check. Here are a few steps you should take to prepare for a pre employment screening background check.
Credit report is one of the information that is included in a pre employment screening background check. The major credit reporting agencies provide a different kind of credit report to companies. They call this report an employment report. This report usually has the credit-payment history and credit habits from which employees can draw conclusions about the applicant. This report does not include your credit score as well as your birth date. The report will not affect your score as this is not considered an inquiry on your credit file. What you need to do before a pre employment screening background check is to make sure you get a copy of your credit report. You’ll get to see if there’s any dispute or identity theft and be able to do something about it by contacting the credit bureau so you can explain it to your interviewer.
Another thing that you should check before you go through a pre employment screening background check is the court records. If you have a previous arrest record or court cases, make sure to inspect the files. Sometimes, court records are not updated correctly. If your case was originally a crime but reduced to a misdemeanor or from misdemeanor to an infraction, some records are not updated to reflect that. When the company conducts a pre employment screening background check, they may think you have a pending case and will not hire you for that.
Your driving records, especially for those applying for jobs that require driving, are important parts of a pre employment screening background check as well. Request a copy from the DMV so you’ll know if there are any cases that you may not be aware of or have forgotten. Sometimes, companies ask you if you have had a traffic violation. If you say no because you think that your previous violation was just a minor infraction, or have forgotten about it, they may not hire for dishonesty.
Lastly, check your profile on social networking websites. Some companies check such sites like MySpace, Facebook, Friendster, etc. See if there’s anything offending or information that will not look good in the eyes of your potential employer.
